pregnancy yoga

Pregnancy yoga classes can be started at beginning of 2nd trimester and carried on right through to due date and the correct positions can be used in labour!

  • Postions used in pregnancy yoga include: standing, reclining, tailor, warrior, kneeling and all fours

  • Breathing techniques for relaxation and stages of labour

  • Work with birthing ball

  • Pelvic floor muscle exercises

  • Positions to help with posture and muscle tone especially the tummy (help get it back into shape after baby!!)

  • Help alleviate aches and pains associated with pregnancy

Ante Natal Classes

The classes are designed to give you a guide to natural child birth and post natal care.
This is a fun class that gets the mother involved in the pregnancy and birth of her baby. This is done by making her aware of her own body and utilising a gentle yoga exercise that will complement the natural movements of her body. The birthing ball is used to show expectant mothers how helpful this method can be during labour and the final trimester of pregnancy.

Breathing

There are two main types of breathing that are important to an expectant mother.

There is the three phase breathing and the ‘hoo hoo ha’. The ‘three phase breathing’ allows a much deeper breath and allows the mother complete relaxation and control. This will be used in each contraction until the midwife says not to push, then the other form of breathing is used ‘hoo hoo ha’

The breathing techniques used in the labour are also used in the yoga based exercise. There is plenty of opportunity for practice.

Yoga

Yoga provides a system of exercises to help you recover the natural range of movements the body is designed to make, in harmony with the force and gravity of the body. Most of us, without even knowing it are carrying excess tension with us, bound up in the muscle and joints. Yoga gets to the root of this tension and gives us an opportunity to breath, let go and release, which is particularly important during pregnancy.

The yoga based exercise is specifically designed for pregnancy and labour to allow maximum movement of the body.
